🔗 Writing for Developers
I often ask people to get a blog, mostly because they tell me about something amazing that they just shared with me.
Lots of these people are developers, but the article I'm linking here pretty much applies to every field or interest. Don't skip the embedded video The Craft of Writing Effectively either, because it has some absolute gold in it.
Why did your teachers want you to explain stuff? Because they wanted to know whether you understood it1 You guys don't know how to explain stuff. You explain stuff under the model of demonstrating to somebody that you understand it. [...] Noone cares about the inside of your head
The article itself has some excellent visualisations as well and I want to highlight why personal blogs can span an incredibly wide spectrum of thoughts and style.
You have no obligation to anyone to conform to a specific style, you can think freely and try things out across a very broad spectrum about any topic, to practise clarity, to play with obscurity, be a clown or write an obituary.
All this can be altruisticly useful to others, but most of all, self-servingly to you.
